Inside Tips for The Best Man’s Speech

best man, nervous, public speaking, speech

As you read this I can also feel your nervousness, but that’s perfectly natural.

If you are planning to give a best man’s speech you are following in the footsteps of millions!

It is right you should be nervous and it is equally right you should give a good account of yourself and enjoy it.

If you plan correctly you will get the biggest buzz ever when you finally sit down.

THE GOLDEN RULES

OSCAR WINNER

You do not have to give an Oscar winning performance. This is a fallacy. You are a supporting act to link it all together – almost a bit part player in some ways.

THE BRIDE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT

The bride is the most important thing – that’s where the focus is, followed by the groom. Make sure you understand where you fit in the pecking order. It will reduce your stress considerably!

DON’T TELL JOKES

Firstly let’s talk about “the jokes“. If you are not a naturally funny person DO NOT tell jokes. It doesn’t work and jokes on their own are a complete misfit with the occasion.

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

Practice your speech BEFORE you deliver it. Do this in the mirror remembering to look yourself in the eye. Do not look down!

Also practice into your smartphone and play it back. Do this many times – you will be AMAZED how much better you get.

RESPECT FOR THE GUESTS

It might be funny to your age group what the groom did on the stag night but be VERY CAREFUL what you say.

Avoid, crass, unworthy behaviour and stories that can ruin a video of the occasion. Be respectful and avoid bad language. In essence be a class act and people will applaud you for that – they will hate you if you are excessively irrelevant and rude.

ENJOY YOURSELF

This wedding is for you to enjoy but please note it will be over in the blink of an eye.

I have been best man on several occasions and giving a wedding speech can be great fun but please take my advice above if you wish to enjoy the day.

Have a great time and I might see you on the podium some time!

p.s. if you are that nervous or you cannot find a best man you can hire me and I’ll come and do it for you!
